Ellen has almost 20 years of professional experience in the areas of branding and design strategy, and also works as a Professor of Strategic Innovation and Design Thinking at ESPM in Brazil.
Ellen has balanced her career between independent professional practice, education and institutional organizations. She has worked for the design agencies a10 Design, Oz Design, 100% Design and VRDResearch, as well as organizations such as Abedesign, where she has been a director for 4 years. In addition, she has taught Design for almost 10 years as a Professor and Lecturer in numerous institutions and regularly writes articles and columns in diverse publications.
She has a BA in Communication and Marketing from Mackenzie University in Sao Paulo, as well as a Master in Communication and Consumer Practices from ESPM and Post Grad in Design Management from the University of Arts in London.
She believes only few industry players are prepared for the shift from physical to digital experience, especially in the banking sector, and that the actual knowledge about the habits of customers in the digital environment is limited, hindering the ability to deliver solutions suited to their needs. “Creativity requires much more than big ideas. To be a leader in the creative industry more skills are required than those acquired in undergraduate courses. It is necessary to develop a new mindset to fill the gap between the left and right brain, between insights and goals, between creativity and strategy.”

Axel Springer
One of our youngest participants to date, Vincent is the Head of Project Management at Zuio GmbH in Berlin.
He started his career in digital video in companies such as “Mi Web” and “Divimove” before heading to this original Axel Springer initiative, training young talents in journalism, moderation and production, relying on their talent and allowing them to develop and produce their own formats, publishing them on YouTube.
One of their key issues in this initiative is online advertising and branded entertainment, working together with brands and creating productions and formats that bring advertisers closer to the viewer, something which in his eyes, needs to be further developed in Germany.
“Having a leading role in a company working with creative people can be as rewarding as it can be frustrating. On the one hand you can work with wonderful people that have amazing ideas, on the other hand, it can be very hard to lead creative individuals. I quickly realized that it would take a lot of time and dedication to acquire the skills that are necessary to work with creative people. I would love to get a chance to be inspired by others who are also successfully managing these kind of companies while further developing my leadership skills.“
Vincent started studying Corporate Management and Economics at the Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen before joining the Berlin School’s Alumni Thomas Elstner at Axel Springer.

ALESSANDRO BEDA
Creative Director
Duda Ads Polska Sp. Z O.O
With 17 years of experience as an Art Director, Alessandro has expertise in TV and print advertising, graphic and motion design, and interior and POS design.
He is an Alumnus of the Cannes Creative Leaders Program in 2013, where he developed the “UNDERSTAND, THINK & DO” framework. Since then, he has been trying to develop it by creating tools and processes that are related to the reality of his company and the advertising industry. “The proper UNDERSTANDING of challenges and their constraints is the most important part of the creative process. If I put together simple “diagnostic” tools to avoid working upon wrong assumptions, the biggest part of the creative challenge is already solved (THINK). Once the challenge is established, I’ll put a good team together to work to find solutions and execute tasks to solve the creative problems (DO).”
Alessandro began his creative career in Brazil, working at Integra Comunicação. In the following years, he worked in Portugal, Spain, France and Poland, at advertising agencies including Newcomm Bates, McCann Erickson and DraftFCB; he developed ATL and BTL campaigns for clients such as Coca-Cola, Kraft Foods, Beiersdorf, Chevrolet, Portugal Telecom, Nestlé Waters, SCJohnson, Unilever and Monoprix. From 2009 to 2011, Alessandro was a Creative Director at Duda Portugal before moving to Poland with the opening of the Duda Polska office.

AXEL QUACK
Strategy Director
frog
Axel works as the Strategy Director at frog design. He was previously Head of Service Design at Allianz Group, Associate Strategic Director at frog design, Vice President of Innovation and Head of the Innovation Lab at Pixelpark (Publicis Groupe).
His thesis Prototyping Innovation: Integrate and Accelerate Change won the “Michael Conrad Outstanding Thesis Award” in 2012. In a nutshell, his thesis describes a human-centered, interdisciplinary process that seeks to create desirable and sustainable changes in behavior and form – of individuals, systems and organizations – often for socially progressive ends. Theses deliverables could be achieved by exploiting multi-stage, iterative process applied to big, complex issues – often, but not limited to, social issues. Its practitioners examine problems holistically rather than reductively to understand relationships as well as components to better frame the challenge. They then prototype small-scale systems – composed of objects, services, interactions and experiences – that support people and organizations in achievement of a desired change. Successful prototypes are then scaled. Design, as used by Axel, is about applying contextual skills in non-traditional territories, which often results in non-traditional design outputs; i.e. the creation of new roles, new organizations, new systems and new policies.
“Professional success used to depend on experience, knowledge, and skill. Since recent decades we live in an increasingly uncertain and volatile world where, even the past has become unpredictable. In this new normal, experience and knowledge are less relevant, while the abilities to learn and adapt, to be resilient and to connect with others are ever more crucial. The Berlin School of Creative Leadership helped to live through (it still does) times of strangeness”.
Success is not linear but sometimes life does not go according to plan. But somehow we are convinced that forcing square pegs into round holes is how we succeed.
Axel always followed his instinct and intuition to the fullest through some unique and explorative experiences in order to get some hands-on empirical learning, which include living on the streets of Amsterdam, running a punk mail order, co-founding a Fab Lab (fabrication laboratory), and Coworking Space that challenges the future of work. But against all odds, Axel managed to obtain a German Engineering Degree, a Master of Arts and a MBA; all of which channeled into real world contribution where he often invited as Guest Lecturer at architecture, design, engineering and business schools internationally.
